The public consultation is now open until May 3rd for industry professionals on ANiMPACT, the international initiative led by CineRegio, Ecoprod and Green Film, aimed at supporting the animation industry in its transition to sustainability.
The objective is to establish a coherent, credible and internationally recognized framework, based on the ANiMPACT Standards that were presented at Cartoon Movie in Bordeaux on March 4th.
The ANiMPACT Standards are the result of a two-year collaborative effort, which began with the publication of the Green Animation Guide in 2025.
“With ANiMPACT we want to address a structural need in the sector. While live-action film productions have progressively adopted recognized sustainability protocols, animation has until now lacked a common reference point. These standards have been designed to provide clarity, consistency and credibility, both for professionals and public funds, while remaining firmly rooted in production realities,” stated Charlotte Applegreen, Secretary General of CineRegio.
The standards were developed through intensive consultations with sustainability experts, animation studios, producers and representatives from public institutions and funds. The working group comprises Valentina Hučková, Head of Sustainability at CEE Animation, Jean-Baptiste Wery, CEO of Oooolala, Pedro Citaristi, board member of Cartoon Italia, Davide Banini, Auditor at Bureau Veritas, and Benoît Ruiz, environmental and social engineering consultant for the film and video game industries.
An approach that draws on different stakeholders to ensure the standards are both ambitious and operationally realistic.
The consultation phase aims to gather feedback from the sector: producers, studios, artists, technicians, funds, broadcasters and distributors.
“The consultation and pilot phase are essential precisely because we do not intend to impose a fixed model, but to build a reference framework for the industry, which is why we encourage producers, studios and creatives to test the standards,” explains Pervenche Beurier from Ecoprod.
ANiMPACT will explain everything and present the initiative in a webinar taking place on March 18th at 11 AM. To register, click HERE
The final version of the ANiMPACT Standards will be presented at MIFA in Annecy, marking the beginning of the pilot phase.
Meanwhile, ANiMPACT is seeking ‘pilot’ animation projects willing to experiment with implementing sustainable practices in their production. “They will play a crucial role in testing the operational feasibility of the standards, identifying areas that need improvement, and demonstrating how sustainability can be effectively integrated into animation workflows,” states Luca Ferrario from Green Film.
The ANiMPACT consortium comprises CineRegio, the network of 53 European regional film funds, Ecoprod, the non-profit organization promoting sustainability in the film industry with over 450 members, and Green Film, the European-recognized sustainability certification.
The initiative is supported by the main European and international audiovisual and animation industry organizations: over 80 have expressed their support by signing a joint statement. These include CARTOON, Animation in Europe, CEE Animation, AnimFrance and Cartoon Italia.
