9 Piedmont projects selected: 6 features and 3 documentaries.

A further success following the region’s prestigious presence at the recent Venice Film Festival, confirming the steady growth of the regional audiovisual sector under the banner of internationalism and quality.

From Brianza by Simone Catania, which opens the Rome Film Fest’s International Competition, to Idda by Irene Dionisio, the opening film of “Alice nella Città,” and Giorni Felici directed by Susanna Nicchiarelli: a varied range of productions and filmmakers spanning the entire program.

5 features supported by the Piemonte Film Tv Fund, and 3 titles developed through the Piemonte Film Tv Development Fund, which is backed by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo.

Piedmont confirms its leading role in Italian cinema at the 21st edition of the Rome Film Fest, running October 13–25, 2026 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, which will host the main screening venues and one of the largest red carpets in the world.

After its record presence at the recent Venice Film Festival, the region is once again in the international spotlight with 9 titles, 6 features and 3 documentaries, across various sections of the Rome Film Fest and Alice nella Città, the independent parallel event dedicated to first works and emerging talent.

Regional Councillors Marina Chiarelli and Andrea Tronzano said:

“After our record presence at the Venice Film Festival, the nine titles selected across the Rome Film Fest and Alice nella Città are further confirmation of the growth of Piedmont’s audiovisual sector. Five features are supported by the Piemonte Film Tv Fund, and four productions involved the Film Commission’s regional network, bringing filming to several municipalities across the region. These figures measure the effectiveness of a system that can support projects from development through production while generating jobs, skills and benefits for local communities. The continuity between Venice and Rome strengthens the Region’s decision to invest in the audiovisual sector as a strategic cultural and economic industry for Piedmont.”

“The Piedmont Cinema System is an important driver of development, with significant economic benefits for the region,” said Marco Gilli, President of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. “It is a sector capable of mobilizing resources and funding, generating value and new opportunities. It is within this framework, and in line with our strategic objectives, that the Compagnia supports the Development Fund for Film and TV Series promoted by FCTP. The fund supports the first and most delicate early phase of audiovisual projects, guiding them toward production and thereby helping to attract new investment, generate qualified spending in the region and strengthen the entire industry supply chain. We particularly congratulate the three titles selected in Rome that were supported by the development call. We are delighted that Brianza by director Simone Catania, whom we met on set during filming, will open the International Competition.”

According to Beatrice Borgia and Paolo Manera, President and Director of Film Commission Torino Piemonte: “The presence in Rome of nine titles supported by Film Commission Torino Piemonte confirms the strength of our model for supporting the audiovisual sector and the proven ability of the Piedmont region to attract and support quality productions, from development through to filming. It is an outstanding result, the fruit of a clear strategic direction pursued under the banner of internationalism, quality and responsibility. This achievement rewards and highlights the comprehensive system of funds and services that, in close synergy with our public and private partners, first and foremost the Piedmont Region and Compagnia di San Paolo for the production and development funds, we are able to guarantee to the sector. We would also highlight the presence and talent of Turin-based directors and producers such as Irene Dionisio and Simone Catania, as well as the confirmation of our leading role in documentary.”

This wide-ranging presence confirms the strength, breadth and complementarity of the funds and services the region can offer to the national audiovisual sector. Of the 9 selected titles, all made with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte, 5 features benefited from the Piedmont Region’s “production fund,” the Piemonte Film Tv Fund; 3 titles were developed through the Piemonte Film Tv Development Fund, which since 2023 has been fully supported by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo; and two are supported by the Piemonte Doc Film Fund. In addition, 4 productions involved FCTP’s regional network, bringing crews to film in various Piedmont municipalities.
