Council of Europe and EBU Launch the European Series Development Award

50 thousand euros to support the development of series aspiring to become European co-productions, contributing to creating a more vibrant and diversified European landscape: the European Series Development Award is the new joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Broadcasting Union, which have signed a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing their cooperation and joint commitment to democracy, human rights, cultural diversity, freedom of expression, and media pluralism.

The European Series Development Award, launched on January 28 at TV Drama Vision, during the Gothenburg Film Festival, aims to encourage independent European narratives, strengthen cross-border co-productions, promote collaboration between producers and public service media, and support quality series with strong European and democratic relevance.

The new award will be implemented within the Council of Europe’s Pilot Programme for Series Co-productions, managed by Eurimages, and will be supported by the EBU Drama Initiative and the EBU Fiction Expert Group.

The call, which opened on February 13, will close on March 18: a jury composed of representatives from the Council of Europe and EBU will select up to two projects to receive the award.
