MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo is preparing to return to Rome from October 19 to 23, 2026, bringing together professionals from across film, drama, documentary, animation and entertainment for its 12th edition.
With press accreditation now open, attention is beginning to turn toward a market that has become an established meeting point for producers, buyers, distributors, broadcasters, platforms, sales companies, investors and institutions working across the international audiovisual business.
MIA is designed around business rather than simply presentation. Projects arrive looking for partners, financing and international visibility, while companies attend to discover new content, build relationships and follow how production and distribution strategies are evolving across different markets.
That makes Rome particularly relevant for professionals looking beyond a single sector. Film, television, documentary and animation operate within the same market environment, creating opportunities for conversations that increasingly cross traditional industry boundaries.
A Market Built Around Projects and Partnerships
The scale of the previous edition shows how international the event has become. Around 2,800 audiovisual professionals from 64 countries attended MIA in 2025, while approximately 500 projects were submitted to its Co-Production Market and Pitching Forum.
From those submissions, 62 projects were presented across Animation, Documentary, Drama and Film, while another 44 titles appeared across five content showcases.
For producers, this concentration of decision-makers creates opportunities to present projects directly to potential co-production, financing and distribution partners. For buyers and commissioners, meanwhile, it provides access to projects at different stages of development rather than only finished content.
The market also creates a useful setting for distributors, sales companies and financiers looking to understand what is moving through the international pipeline and where new partnerships are emerging.
Financing Takes a Bigger Role in 2026
MIA is expanding that focus further this year. Among the additions is the Animation Series Gap Financing Market, dedicated to animated series that already have significant financing and commissioner backing but still require additional international partners to complete their financing structure.
The 2026 program also introduces the European Investment Hub, bringing greater attention to the financial side of the audiovisual industry and to the different instruments available for companies and projects.
Together with MIA‘s co-production activities, pitching forums, showcases, screenings, meetings and networking opportunities, these initiatives reinforce the market’s position as a place where projects can move from introductions toward concrete business discussions.
For companies working internationally, that is increasingly important. Financing structures are becoming more complex, co-productions regularly involve several territories, and the right distributor, broadcaster or investment partner can determine whether a project progresses.
MIA brings many of those conversations into the same five days in Rome. For professionals planning their autumn market calendar, MIA 2026 offers an opportunity to meet international partners, discover new projects and take part in the business conversations shaping the next wave of audiovisual production.
Press accreditation for the 12th edition of Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo is now open through the official MyMIA platform.
