After its anniversary edition, held from June 12 to 21 in Cluj-Napoca, the TIFF.25 Retrospective is bringing the Transilvania International Film Festival to Bucharest. From July 9 to 12, Cinema Elvire Popesco will host the TIFF.25 Retrospective, bringing audiences a selection of films from the program of the festival’s 25th edition.
Bucharest audiences will be able to discover Lionel (dir. Carlos Saiz), winner of the Transilvania Trophy, alongside Hen, the unconventional feature film by György Pálfi and one of the audience hits in Cluj. The selection also includes a screening of the cult classic Donnie Darko (dir. Richard Kelly), which was presented in The Pitch Black Anthology section, dedicated to black comedies, as well as Swann in Love (Un amour de Swann), Volker Schlöndorff’s adaptation of Marcel Proust’s novel, starring the legendary Ornella Muti, who was a special guest at TIFF.25.
The program is completed by Bulk, a low-budget sci-fi film that makes up for its means with inventiveness, directed by Ben Wheatley, one of today’s most acclaimed British filmmakers; Sundays (dir. Alauda Ruiz de Azúa), in which a young woman wants to become a nun, much to her family’s despair; Things We Don’t Say (dir. Gabriele Muccino), a story about relationships at a breaking point; My Father’s Shadow (dir. Akinola Davies Jr.), an emotional debut set against the backdrop of Nigeria’s 1993 electoral crisis; Bazaar, Murder in the Building (dir. Rémi Bezançon), a thriller with Hitchcockian touches; and The Stranger (L’Étranger), an adaptation of Albert Camus’ novel directed by none other than François Ozon.

The TIFF Retrospective in Bucharest is organized with the support of the French Institute in Romania.
