The signing ceremony of the new Council of Europe Convention on the Co-production of Series-based Audiovisual Works will take place at the Series Mania Forum on March 26 at the Grand Palais in Lille.
This is the first legal agreement specifically dedicated to the co-production of independent series for television and streaming platforms, and marks a significant step for the European and international audiovisual sector: it strengthens cultural cooperation by supporting independent producers and encouraging transparency in a rapidly evolving world.
“Series are one of the cultural forms that define our time, reaching audiences in different countries and bringing new perspectives into our homes. I encourage the 46 member states of the Council of Europe and other countries to join us in making culture a force for cooperation and democracy.” This was stated by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, who will deliver the opening speech at the Lille Dialogues during the Series Mania Forum, the international summit that brings together the most important political and audiovisual industry leaders to discuss the sector’s most significant strategic challenges.
“We are honored to host this historic signing at Series Mania as part of the Lille Dialogues. This convention represents an important step for the industry and will help bring diversification to serial storytelling for European and global audiences, a mission that has always been at the heart of Series Mania,” added Laurence Herszberg, founder and president of the festival.
