With nine titles in total taking part in this year’s Venice programme, the region has achieved its strongest result to date.
Five new titles in the Official Selection, starting with the highly anticipated new feature by Marco Bechis, Ritorno a Buenos Aires, and the return of Nanni Moretti with Succederà questa notte, both in Competition. La ragazza con la Leica, directed by Alina Marazzi, will open the Orizzonti section and compete for its main awards. Tommaso Landucci’s debut feature I figli della scimmia is Also in Orizzonti Competition. The short film Il Senso della Terra, by Alessandro Ingaria and Simone Massi, will screen Out of Competition in the same section.
Alongside its strong festival presence, Piemonte is also creating new opportunities to bring literary works to the screen. The first edition of Premio Match Piemonte, an initiative promoted by Regione Piemonte in collaboration with Fondazione Circolo dei lettori and Film Commission Torino Piemonte, selected La finestra del terzo piano by Paola Darò, published by Piemme, as its winning novel. Designed to build a bridge between contemporary literature and audiovisual production, the initiative now moves into its second phase. Italian audiovisual production companies are invited to apply to produce a pilot short film based on the winning book, with a maximum investment of €60,000 including VAT available for the selected project. Applications are open until September 15th. Once the call closes, a selection committee will choose the production company responsible for the short film, which must be completed within eight months and filmed in Piedmont, with support from Film Commission Torino Piemonte.
Production activity in the region is also continuing with new shoots. On July, filming began in Turin on Così, all’improvviso, directed by Salvatore Allocca and produced by Stella Rossa Savino. The film is a production by MIA Film, Helios Film and Emma Film, with Rai Cinema, made with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte and funding through the FESR Piemonte 2021–2027 – Piemonte Film TV Fund 2025, alongside selective support from the Italian Ministry of Culture.
