The 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is marking its anniversary edition with a guest lineup that brings real artistic weight to the event.
Opening on July 3, the festival will welcome several major international names to the red carpet at the Hotel Thermal Grand Hall, including Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jesse Eisenberg, Dustin Hoffman and Harvey Keitel. Their presence gives this year’s edition more than star power. It connects the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival’s anniversary celebration with different generations of cinema, from New Hollywood classics to contemporary independent filmmaking.
Cinema History Meets Contemporary Talent at KVIFF
Dustin Hoffman will receive the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema during the Opening Ceremony and will present The Graduate on July 4. Harvey Keitel will also attend the opening night before introducing Mean Streets on July 5, bringing two landmark careers in American cinema to Karlovy Vary.
The festival will also honor Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jesse Eisenberg with the President’s Award. Gyllenhaal will present The Bride! on July 4, while Eisenberg will introduce The Double and take part in a KVIFF Talk with the audience on the same day. Their participation adds a more contemporary voice to the program, reflecting careers that move between acting, writing, directing and producing.
KVIFF 60 will also recognize the work of cinematographer Robert Richardson, who will receive the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema. His presence highlights the importance of film craft alongside performance, expanding the festival’s tribute beyond actors alone.
Later in the week, Juliette Binoche will present In-I in Motion, Certified Copy and Three Colours: Blue before receiving the Crystal Globe at the Closing Ceremony on July 11. Jeffrey Wright will present Basquiat on July 10 and receive the President’s Award at the closing night, while Magda Vášáryová will be honored with the President’s Award and will present Birds, Orphans and Fools.
Together, these guests give the 60th KVIFF a strong sense of occasion. By bringing celebrated actors, filmmakers and craftspeople into screenings, talks and public appearances, the festival is using its anniversary not only to look back, but also to remind audiences why great artists continue to give festivals their cultural value.
