Ventana Sur 2026 edition launched in Cannes

The 2026 edition of Ventana Sur will take place from 30 November to 4 December in Montevideo, continuing to expand through its “Río de la Plata” format, that alternates each year Montevideo to Buenos Aires. 

A structured model, designed to strengthen the market’s continuity and reinforce connections across the Latin American audiovisual industry.

The five days of meetings, screenings and networking events which will be host across several emblematic venues in the Uruguayan, capital including the national cultural center Sodre, the Cinemateca Uruguaya – which will host the market screening – and the historic Teatro Solís were presented at Cannes Marché du Film.

Since its creation in 2009, Ventana Sur has established itself as the leading audiovisual market in Latin America, bringing together more than 3,000 international professionals each year around the financing, co-production and circulation of Latin American content. Through its main sections and initiatives dedicated to feature films, series, animation, documentaries and new forms of creation, the market continues to actively support the evolution of the regional audiovisual industry.

Ventana Sur’s growing international momentum was further highlighted during the 2026 Marché du Film in Cannes, notably through a curated program of events, including the Ventana Sur Goes to Cannes showcase – featuring a selection of Latin American works-in-progress presented to sales agents, distributors and festival programmers – as well as a dedicated panel with key representatives from ACAU and INCAA. The program also included a case study session and a networking cocktail, bringing together the Latin American and global film communities.

Marta Sanchez, is the founder of from Pragda Film, a company based in New York, dedicated to the distribution of Spanish and Latin films in North America, counting on a catalogue of around 900 titles, between fiction and documentaries: “We have been invited to Ventana Sur since the very beginning and what is important for us to meet young producers and directors. We just acquired here in Cannes El Hangar Rojo by Juan Pablo Sallato, with the first contact being established in Ventana Sur. We will bring it to US cinemas in autumn, starting with 2 weeks in New York and then movies to other cities.  Ventana Sur is really the place for distributors looking for creativity.”

El Hangar Rojo is a co-production between Chile (Villano Producciones) Argentina (Brava Cine), Italy (Rain Dogs, Caravan, Berta Film) counting on the support of FIJA Selection, Corfo de Desarrollo, INCAA, Rebate Mendoza Audiovisual, Ibermedia, MIC, TVN, sold by the French MPM Premium. It had its premiere in Berlinale Perspectives 2026.

Also, a place for genre movies, with its new program Ventana Sur Fantastic, which is a rebranding of the previous Blood Window.

The other flagship program of this upcoming edition will be Primer CorteCopia FinalProyecta, VS DocsVS Shortfilms, VS GuionesVS Tech and VS Animation.
