MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo returns to Rome October 19–23 with new content and international guests. Directed by Gaia Tridente, the market is promoted by ANICA (Italian Association of Film, Audiovisual and Digital Industries), chaired by Alessandro Usai, and APA (Italian Audiovisual Producers Association), chaired by Chiara Sbarigia.
This year MIA received more than 530 projects from 82 countries, a figure that confirms the international reach the market offers projects in development. The 2026 Official Selection counts 67 titles: 24 live-action feature films, 10 animated feature films, 11 feature documentaries, 2 docuseries, 2 TV one-offs and 18 scripted series, all set to be presented in Rome across the various pitching sessions and co-production meetings. Seven documentaries from the new Doc Connect programme join them.
The offer is further expanded by projects selected for the new programmes and initiatives introduced in the 2026 edition, including animated series, which will be announced in the coming weeks as part of the new Gap Financing programme.
MIA 2026 Awards: Development Award, WIFTMI and Screen International Prizes
The awards presented during the MIA 2026 closing ceremony include the MIA Development Award: cash prizes for the best projects in the Co-Production & Gap Financing Market, designed to provide concrete support for their development. This initiative translates MIA‘s role as a market platform into direct support for the industry: not only an international space for visibility, meetings and the circulation of projects, but also an instrument capable of advancing them and generating tangible business opportunities as they move towards the next stages of development, financing and production.
Also confirmed are the Women in Film and Television Italia – WIFTMI Award, presented to the project showing the greatest potential in the fields of gender equality and inclusion, and the Screen International Award, presented to a film selected for the C EU Soon showcase.
MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo 2026 is organised with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, ICE – Agency for the Promotion Abroad and Internationalisation of Italian Companies. It also receives contributions from Creative Europe MEDIA and the Ministry of Culture, and support from the Rome Lazio Film Commission Foundation and the Lazio Region. For this edition, the event is held in collaboration with the Department for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion of Roma Capitale, and under the patronage of Eurimages, the Council of Europe’s fund for the co-production, distribution, exhibition and digitalisation of European cinematographic works.
