La Gradiva, the film written and directed by Marine Atlan, wins the Grand Prix Ami Paris, the most prestigious award of the 65th Semaine de la Critique of the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
The French director’s debut feature film starring Antonia Buresi, Colas Quignard, Suzanne Gerin, Mitia Capellier-Audat is a France-Italy production and is set entirely in Italy, between Pompeii and Naples, a Films du poisson production , co-produced by Arte France Cinema and, for Italy, by Angelo Barbagallo’s Bibi Film TV.
It is realized with Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée, Eurimages – Council of Europe, Canal+, Fonds de coproduction France-Italie, Ciné+OCS, La Fondation Gan pour le cinéma, Ciclic-Région Centre-Val de Loire in collaboration with CNC, Regione Campania, Film Commission Regione Campania, MIC Direzione Generale Cinema e Audiovisivo.
It will be distributed in Italy by Fandango Distribuzione, international sales Mk2 Films.
Gradiva tells of a class of high schoolers who travel to Pompeii to discover the ruins and bodies petrified by Mount Vesuvius. The trip turns into a unique moment when the power of youth meets a world frozen in time. Their desires begin to surface with unexpected intensity, leading them toward an irreversible fracture.
