AFM 2026: Where The Global Independent Film Business Comes Together

This November, the American Film Market® (AFM®) returns to Los Angeles for its 47th edition, bringing together the international independent film and television community for six days of business, dealmaking, screenings, networking and industry programming.

Taking place November 10–15, 2026, AFM returns for its second year to the Fairmont Century Plaza in Century City, widely praised by last year’s participants as an elevated new home for the Market. Centrally located in the heart of Los Angeles’ entertainment industry, attendees are within easy reach of studios, agencies, financiers, distributors and other companies across the city, while AFM Market Screenings take place directly across the street at AMC Century City 15.

For Italian and European executives and producers, this makes AFM an especially efficient international business trip. Beyond six concentrated days at the Market, attendees can meet directly with U.S.-based partners and industry contacts across Los Angeles. This combination — access to the global independent marketplace and the wider Los Angeles entertainment industry in a single trip — makes AFM a must-attend event on the annual industry calendar.

There is even more reason to attend in 2026. AFM is currently tracking ahead of last year across all categories of participants, with more than 212 exhibiting companies already confirmed and more joining daily, and is expanding its footprint and introducing new initiatives for the independent business.

At its core, AFM remains a marketplace. Hundreds of finance, production, sales and distribution companies come together to develop, finance, package, showcase, acquire and license films and projects. For producers, that means opportunities at virtually every stage — from seeking financing and co-production partners to exploring international sales and distribution, presenting completed films and building relationships that can move projects forward.

Italy and Europe will once again have a significant presence alongside major U.S. sales, production and finance companies. Italian participants include Cinecittà, Minerva Pictures/Digital United Studios, FilmExport Group, IUVIT Media Sales, EDI Effetti Digitali Italiani, Movimenti Production and Film Commission Genova Liguria. Across Europe, participating companies include STUDIOCANAL, Gaumont, Pathé Films, mk2 Films and Playtime from France; Beta Cinema, K5 International and Picture Tree International from Germany; Altitude, HanWay Films, Embankment Films, Protagonist Pictures and WestEnd Films from the UK; Film Factory Entertainment, Filmax and Latido Films from Spain; TrustNordisk from Denmark; and Anton from Luxembourg.

The buying community is similarly global, with buyers already registered from across Europe, Asia, the Americas, the Middle East and beyond. European participation is particularly strong from Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, France and Italy, alongside buyers from the United States, Canada, Brazil, China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and many other territories.

Whether seeking their next releases for theatrical, streaming/VOD, television or ancillary platforms, buyers will have access to thousands of titles represented at AFM — from new packages and projects to completed films, library titles and premium content from established and emerging creators.

But AFM’s value extends beyond the deals being made. Conversations across the stages, in meetings, over drinks and in the hallways offer an invaluable window into the marketplace — what is selling, what buyers are seeking, where financing is moving and how business models are evolving. Participants leave with relationships and deals in motion, but also with insights that can inform strategy, planning and business decisions in the year ahead. AFM is where creativity and commerce collide, and in a relationship-driven industry where face-to-face connection remains critical, the Market provides an essential opportunity to strengthen partnerships, find new collaborators and build the relationships that drive future business.

NEW FOR 2026

Under the new annual theme, The New Global Screen Economy, AFM 2026 will expand its programming around the forces transforming how content is financed, produced, distributed, marketed and consumed.

A major addition is The AFM House, expanding the Market’s Century City footprint with a new hub for innovation, technology, theatrical exhibition and industry conversation. The House will include an expanded Innovation Hub in collaboration with Cannes Next, the innovation program of the Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes, featuring emerging technologies, platforms, demonstrations and discussions.

Making its North American debut at AFM will be Cinemas Club, co-created by the Marché du Film and France’s Cine Group, bringing exhibitors, distributors, producers and other leaders together to explore the future of theatrical cinema and the moviegoing experience.

AFM is introducing new ways for companies and producers to elevate Market Screenings, including slate showcases, premiere positioning, hospitality, concessions and red-carpet opportunities, along with new early-evening screening times.

Buyers will have new dedicated spaces to meet and connect throughout the Market. A new Buyers Lounge at AMC Century City 15 will provide a convenient place to meet, work or recharge between screenings, while the Gold Lounge Bar at the Fairmont will offer Buyers and IFTA Members a dedicated gathering place each evening from 5:30–7:30 PM to continue conversations after the Market day winds down.

Across four days, The AFM Sessions will bring together more than 160 industry leaders, innovators and experts for conversations spanning financing, production, distribution, marketing, technology and the evolving global business. LocationEXPO® will connect producers with film commissions, incentives, locations and production resources from around the world.

AFM 2026 brings the global independent community together with direct access to the heart of the U.S. entertainment industry — making one trip to Los Angeles an opportunity to do business around the world.
