Hoichoi Series Coming to Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu

Netflix and hoichoi, the Bengali-first streaming platform and content studio, have announced a first of its kind partnership to bring acclaimed series, new premieres, adaptations and original stories to audiences across India. The deal was announced in Mumbai on 22 October. Under the agreement, every hoichoi series premiering in the next two years will arrive on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, exclusively on the service.

A 14-title hoichoi library on Netflix

The first wave brings a curated collection of 14 acclaimed hoichoi shows to Netflix: Madam Inspector, Sampurna, Lajja, Eken Sirji, Anjaan Saaye, The Curse of Parnashavari, Bloodlines, The Adventures of Daadi & Jagga, Raat Abhi Baaki Hain, Achinta: Trial By Law, Shaadi Ka Siyappa (Bohemian Ghora), Queens, Parineeta: A Love Story and Mahanagar (Mohanagar). The lineup spans crime thrillers, detective mysteries, folklore horror, social and courtroom dramas, and romance. It includes two Bangladeshi productions, Ashfaque Nipun’s Mohanagar and Amitabh Reza Chowdhury’s Bohemian Ghora.

New hoichoi releases will be available to watch on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu at the same time as their Bengali debut on hoichoi. The first is The Cursed Temple of Kauriburi, a folklore horror series starring Jeetu Kamal, Solanki Roy and Paoli Dam, premiering November 6. More titles will follow in the coming months.

The two companies will also work together on original series produced by Hoichoi Studios, reimagining select hoichoi stories through new creative voices and perspectives. Further details have not yet been announced.

Netflix’s licensing push

For Netflix, the deal is part of a broader strategy of complementing its originals with a growing range of licensed third-party content. With a global audience approaching one billion people, the streamer is positioning itself as a partner for studios, networks and creators. The hoichoi agreement follows earlier licensing deals with France’s TF1 and Brazil’s Globo.

Launched in 2017 under Indian entertainment company SVF, hoichoi offers more than 2,000 hours of programming, including over 100 original productions. The platform says it reaches more than 250 million Bengalis worldwide, and it set up Hoichoi Studios in 2023.

Bengali-language audiences can continue to watch hoichoi for every new premiere, while viewers in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu can watch Netflix for the same series on day one, starting with The Cursed Temple of Kauriburi.
