{"id":3812,"date":"2012-10-05T17:49:45","date_gmt":"2012-10-05T17:49:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinema.video\/?p=3812"},"modified":"2026-04-10T03:23:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T01:23:27","slug":"cannescinema-is-growing-at-mipcom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinema.video\/it\/cannescinema-is-growing-at-mipcom","title":{"rendered":"MIPCOM Cinema is growing at the Market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p title=\"CANNES\/Sempre pi\u00f9 Cinema al Mipcom\">In recent years the movie industry and its protagonists have taken on an increasingly important role at Mipcom.\u00a0 And, once again this year, Cannes\u2019 global entertainment market (October 8<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 11<sup>th<\/sup>) has placed at the center of its schedule a selection of initiatives featuring a series of illustrious names, confirming the increasingly close dialogue that is emerging between the small and the big screen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kevin Spacey<\/strong> and <strong>Robin Wright Penn<\/strong> will be in Cannes to present \u201cHouse of Cards\u201d, 26 episodes of which have been commissioned by Netflix from Media Rights Capital, created by Spacey himself along with<strong> Beau Willimon<\/strong> (the screenwriter for \u201cThe Ides of March\u201d) and<strong> David Fincher<\/strong>, who will also direct the first two episodes. \u00a0\u201cHouse of Cards\u201d, inspired by the BBC drama series of the same name screened in the 1990s, focuses on the intrigues of power, sex, ambition and corruption in modern-day Washington. \u00a0The international distributor is Sony Pictures Television.<\/p>\n<p>On October 8<sup>th<\/sup> <strong>Harvey Weinstein<\/strong>, the founder, alongside his brother Bob, of Miramax Films and The Weinstein Company \u2013 a production and multimedia distribution business \u2013 will appear as the keynote speaker to promote the recently launched International Television Sales Division of TWC.\u00a0 He will also be announcing their TV products for 2013 and their latest proposals including the epic series \u201cMarco Polo\u201d, currently in pre-production for Starz.<\/p>\n<p>The highlight of the \u201cCreative Talks\u201d will be an exclusive interview with Oscar and Palme d\u2019Or winner (for \u201cThe Piano\u201d) <strong>Jane Campion<\/strong>, who will be presenting a new TV series \u201cTop of the Lake\u201d, which she created and wrote (along with Gerard Lee), and for which she is also the executive producer (for See-Saw Films).\u00a0 Set in New Zealand, amidst landscapes filled with uncontaminated nature, the series follows the events linked to the mysterious disappearance of a twelve year old pregnant girl.\u00a0 \u201cTop of the Lake\u201d is produced in association with Screen Australia, Screen NSW and Fulcrum Media Finance for the BBC, UKTV, The Sundance Channel and BBC Worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>On October 8<sup>th<\/sup> Mipcom will be hosting the premiere of \u201c1812\u201d, an historical adventure feature focusing on the clashes between Russia and Napoleon in the Battle of Borodino.\u00a0 The movie, directed by Oleg Fesenko, will be released in Russian cinemas on November 1<sup>st<\/sup> and will be presented by Central Partnership, one of the most important Russian independent production and distribution companies.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are honored to host the premiere of this movie on the 200<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of this historic battle\u201d, says <strong>Laurine Garaude<\/strong>, director of the television division of Reed Midem.\u00a0 \u201cFeature movies have always been an essential part of every TV channel\u2019s schedule and this is why an increasing number of film production companies are choosing Mipcom to raise financing and secure distribution deals\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew Modine<\/strong> is expected at Cannes to promote <em>CAT.8<\/em> at Mipcom, the four part mini-series produced by Muse Entertainment and distributed by Sonar Entertainment, in which the actor plays an exiled scientist who is called upon to save the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Wayne Callies<\/strong>, one of the stars of\u00a0 &#8220;The Walking Dead&#8221;
