{"id":1559,"date":"2012-02-08T12:51:31","date_gmt":"2012-02-08T12:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinema.video\/62%c2%b0berlinalereality-breaks-through-the-screen"},"modified":"2026-04-10T03:21:31","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T01:21:31","slug":"62berlinalereality-breaks-through-the-screen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinema.video\/it\/62berlinalereality-breaks-through-the-screen","title":{"rendered":"62\u00b0BERLINALE Reality breaks through the Screen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cinema.video\/amministrazione\/up_img\/angelina.jpg\" alt=\"\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"2\" \/>Les Adieux \u00e0 la reine\u201d by Beno\u00eet Jacquot, the adaptation of a costume novel, will be opening the 62nd Berlinale on February 9th.<br \/>\nThe film, in competition, is about the early days of the French Revolution seen through the eyes of the servants at Versailles.<br \/>\n&#8220;Many of the movies in competition are about departures or radical changes, presenting stories or history from a different perspective\u201d says the Festival\u2019s director<strong> Dieter Kosslick.<\/strong><br \/>\nItaly will be competing for the Golden Bear with the <strong>Taviani Brothers\u2019<\/strong> &#8220;Cesare deve morire\u201d (Caesar must die).<br \/>\nIt will be competing against &#8220;Jayne Mansfield\u2019s Car\u201d by Billy Bob Thornton, Brillante Mendoza\u2019s &#8220;Captive\u201d and Tsui Hark\u2019s &#8220;Flying Swords Of Dragon Gate\u201d.<br \/>\nOut of competition is &#8220;Extremely Loud &amp; Incredibly Close\u201d by Stephen Daldry, which has received two Oscar nominations (best picture and best supporting actor for Max von Sydow), &#8220;Jin l\u00edng Sh\u00ed San Chai\u201d (The Flowers Of War) by Zhang Yimou and &#8220;Shadow Dancer\u201d, the latest work by James Marsh, the director of the astonishing &#8220;Man on Wire\u201d. Completing the program will be a special screening of Steven Soderbergh\u2019s &#8220;Haywire\u201d, starring Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender and Antonio Banderas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Particularly interesting will be the Berlinale Special where Italy will be making a brief appearance with <strong>Alba Rohrwacher<\/strong>, the star of &#8220;Gl\u00fcck\u201d (Bliss) by Doris D\u00f6rrie.<br \/>\nThis section will also feature Angelina Jolie\u2019s directing debut, &#8220;In The Land Of Blood And Honey\u201d, Werner Herzog\u2019s TV documentary series about the death penalty, &#8220;Death Row\u201d, Alex de La Iglesia\u2019s &#8220;La Chispa de la Vida\u201d, Oscar winner Kevin Macdonald who, after last year\u2019s &#8220;Life in a Day\u201d returns to the Berlinale with &#8220;Marley\u201d, and the documentary produced by Javier Bardem, &#8220;Hijos de las nubes. La \u00faltima colonia\u201d by Alvaro Longoria, which is part of this Berlinale\u2019s special focus on the &#8220;Arab Spring\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Apart from being present in the various Festival sections, Arabic <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cinema.video\/amministrazione\/up_img\/abramovich.jpg\" alt=\"\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"2\" \/>cinema will also feature strongly inside the market and, together with the Middle Eastern question, will be one of the main themes of the Panorama- Dokument section.<br \/>\nThis section opens with &#8220;Revolutionary\u201d by Sean McAllister about a Yemeni tourist guide and his involvement in his country\u2019s &#8220;political spring\u201d.<br \/>\nThe other two themes of Panorama-Dockument are &#8220;Queer Memory\u201d, and the G8 and Anti-Globalization: here Italy is the protagonist with &#8220;Diaz\u201d by <strong>Daniele Vicari<\/strong>, starring Elio Germano, Alessandro Roja and Claudio Santamaria, and &#8220;The Summit\u201d by <strong>Franco Fracassi<\/strong> and <strong>Massimo Lauria<\/strong>, w<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px; border: 0pt none;\" src=\"https:\/\/cinema.video\/amministrazione\/up_img\/grecia.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"130\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"2\" \/>hich explores the backdrop of lies surrounding the death of Carlo Giuliani and the State brutality that took place in the demonstrations preceding the ones in Genoa (from Brokdorf to Naples, Gothenburg and Seattle).<\/p>\n<p>Generational conflicts and the ambivalence of progress are the main themes of the Forum, whilst as usual Forum Expanded (37 works by artists, directors, musicians and theorists from 20 different countries) will try to define the role of contemporary cinema, looking at the relevance of the radical ideas of the past in the present day.<br \/>\nHere Italy will be represented by Pier Paolo Pasolini\u2019s unfinished novel, &#8220;Petrolio\u201d, which has been chosen by Rosalind Nashashibi as the starting point for &#8220;Carlo\u2019s Vision\u201d (a co-production between Italy and the United Kingdom).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Say Goodbye to the Story\u201d is the &#8220;leitmotiv\u201d of the shorts section, inspired by the title of the work (in competition) by Christoph Schlingensief.<br \/>\nWe should also mention &#8220;Logoro\u201d by Peruvian director Claudia Llosa, who won the Berlinale 2009 with &#8220;La Teta Asustada\u201d and &#8220;The End\u201d, by Charlotte Rampling.<br \/>\nAn Italian short movie (&#8220;Pokot Ash Yogurt\u201d by <strong>Francesco Amato<\/strong> and Stefano Scarafia) will be presented as part of the &#8220;Culinary Cinema\u201d section whose motto for this year is &#8220;Trust in Taste\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The retrospective, &#8220;The Red Dream Factory.
