Work on the Regione Calabria audiovisual law &#8211; which will give the sector and the\u00a0<strong>Fondazione Calabria Film Commission<\/strong> a leading role in regional development policies \u2013 is proceeding with these two strategic objectives. But whilst law making can take time, the cinema machine has already started moving, eversince the new course of the Fondazione Calabria Film Commission was inaugurated in August 2015 with the slogan <em>Calabria, Terra da girare &#8211; A land for filming<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>There are many national productions that we will be seeing on TV soon, like the Rai drama series \u201cTutto il mondo \u00e8 paese\u201d, dedicated to the innovative reception policies of the mayor of Riace Mimmo Lucano, the docu- film \u201cI cacciatori di Calabria\u201d, realized in collaboration with Rai due, the \u201c4 restaurants\u201d format with chef Alessandro Borghes and the television series for the international market announced by Sky, \u201cThe Miracle\u201d, written by Niccol\u00f2 Ammaniti.<\/p>\n<p>This acceleration in productions is also due to <strong>LU.CA.<\/strong>, the innova- tive collaboration agreement with the Basilicata region inaugurated, we should remember, by supporting a short film, \u201cThe Millionairs\u201d, by Claudio Santamaria who chose the Parco Nazionale del Pollino for his directing debut.<br \/>\nWhile Santamaria returned to his homeland for his directing debut, <strong>Jonas Carpignano<\/strong>, another Calabrian talent, not only lmed and set the aforementioned \u201cA Ciambra\u201d there but last November he opened a branch of his production company <strong>Stayblack Productions<\/strong> in Calabria, which has received contr<\/p>\n<p>ibutions for carrying out the scouting for two new international projects: \u201cAlfa\u201d and \u201cGeppetto\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-14175 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cinema.video\/wp-content\/uploads\/calabria6-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cinema.video\/wp-content\/uploads\/calabria6.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cinema.video\/wp-content\/uploads\/calabria6.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cinema.video\/wp-content\/uploads\/calabria6.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cinema.video\/wp-content\/uploads\/calabria6.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Many works by young creatives in the region have received support from the Calabria Film Commission in just over a year. These include the short\u00a0\u201cPenalty\u201d by Aldo Iuliano from Crotone (Golden Globe 2017 and Best Short 2017 I Love GAI at the 74th Venice Film Festival), \u201cIl Padre d\u2019Italia\u201d by Fabio Mollo (Golden Globe 2017 Best Actress Isabella Ragonese), \u201cRacconto Calabrese\u201d by Renato Pagliuso, the documentary \u201cUscirai vivo\u201d produced by the Kinema cultural association in Girifalco, \u201cJudas\u201d by Pierluigi Sposato, the short by Gianluca Loffredo \u201cQuasi domani\u201d (screened in Venice in the Mibact\u2019s Migrarti section), the short \u201cBismillah\u201d by Alessandro Grande, the short \u201cIl nostro sangue\u201d by Gino Palummo, the diploma performance by a group of Pupils from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia [Experimental Cinema Center] guided by Gianni Amelio.<\/p>\n<p>With the rst public notice for attracting national and international audiovisual and theatrical productions to the territory of the Calabria region, 14 productions have been funded that are getting ready to film in the region over the next few months: seven feature films (\u201cVersace\u201d by Billie August produced by Oberon Produzioni; \u201cFigli\u201d, by Giacomo Campiotti produced by BIBI Film; \u201cRapiscimi\u201d, by Gianluca Gargano produced by Alba Produzioni; \u201cSar\u00e0 bello\u201d by Paola Columba, produced by Baby Film; \u201cCiccio Paradiso\u201d by Rocco Ricciardulli, produced by Sergio Nuzzo; \u201cL\u2019altra via\u201d by Francesco Lodari, produced by Picture Show; \u201cWhite Flowers\u201d by Marco De Angelis and Antonio Di Trapani, produced by Solaria Film), five documentaries (\u201cSons of Mafia\u201d by Sophia Luvar\u00e0 produced by DocLab; \u201cArberia\u201d produced by A.c.a.r.i. and Massimo Ivan Falsetta; \u201cWaiting for the Steven\u201d by Davide Morabito produced by Red Rock Goat; \u201cCaronte\u201d by Nunzio Gringeri produced by Onirica;\u201cCCC-Calabria Cometo Cambridge\u201d by Berardo Carboni, produced by Piroetta) and two web series (\u201cLe avventure di pomodoro rosso\u201d by Alessandro Gordano, produced by Lago Film and \u201cCalabrifornication\u201d by Salvatore Romano produced by Marvaso Production). I used to go there as a boy and I really liked its timeless atmosphere which is also particularly suitable for my noir story that I filmed without any dialogue, adapting it to the cartoon of the same name by Thomas Ott\u201d.\u00a0<\/em><em>Santamaria filmed in October 2016 and the support he received from the region was total: \u201cI already had a producer (Editor\u2019s note: Gabriele Mainetti, who had previously directed Santamaria in \u201cJeeg Robot\u201d) and felt I had to make my movie as soon as possible. Despite the little time available the Film Commission provided me with a person for the location hunting who is also a guide in the Pollino national park, <strong>Fabio Limongi<\/strong>, who subsequently became an actor in the short. We went to Piano Ruggio from where it is possible to admire the whole panorama as far as Taranto. It is the only place in Italy where Bosnian pines grow, clinging to the rocks.
